Don’t wait: Make a reservation now for that dream South Florida fishing trip

Thinking about sampling South Florida’s fishing scene this season? Want to hire a fishing charter or a fishing guide?

Don’t wait – now’s the time to schedule a trip.

If you love fishing you owe it to yourself to take time out of your busy schedule now and then to spend a day on the waters doing what you love most. Fishing charters can be expensive, particularly if you are planning a private charter, so doing a little homework ahead of time is always a good idea. The brilliant fishing waters of the USA offer outstanding opportunities for freshwater, onshore, offshore and deep sea fishing and there are world-class charter companies dotted around all the most popular fishing areas to assist you to catch that big one.

Capt. Dan, aka. “Underwater Cowboy”, of Underwater Cowboy charter Services, books trips year-round on the Key Biscayne, Miami and Fort Lauderdale area. Dan said a good rule of thumb is the sooner one makes a reservation, the better – particularly if one has a specific date or day of the week in mind during a specific season. Weekends always get booked first, he stressed.

“I get a lot of guys who will book a year in advance as soon as they step off the boat,” he said.

All South Florida fishing charters are NOT created equal.

There are close to 5 dozen companies offering fishing charters on South Florida. Most of these focus on sport fishing.  The best fishing charters go out every day, keep their gear in good condition and catch fish on a fairly regular basis. No boat catches every day. Fishing is fishing, after all.

What might be a good fishing charter for some, may not be the best trip for others. Capt. Dan keeps his vessels in tip top shape and truly provides an experience of a lifetime.

Deposits required

Guided fishing trips/charters range in cost from $450 to $900, depending on the waterway and time spent on the water. Deposits are required. The standard amount, according to those interviewed for this story, is usually $100. Should the guide cancel because of adverse weather conditions or some other reason, efforts are made to try and reschedule the outing on another day or the deposit is usually refunded. If the client cancels and no new date can be arranged, the deposit is often forfeited.
